Two boys who blackmailed a man for money in May last year each received a community service order of one hundred hours. The boys, now aged 18 and 20, posed as a 16-year-old boy on a dating app. They met the victim for a ‘sex date’, and then demanded money from him to keep it quiet.

When the victim arrived at the agreed location in the Nollebos in Vlissingen, the suspects emerged from a bush unrecognizable. They took the man’s phone and wanted him to withdraw 2,500 euros.

A week later he would have to withdraw another 2,000 euros to get his phone back. If the victim did not do this, the suspects would make it public that he had made a (sex) appointment with a minor and was possibly a pedophile.

‘Make money quickly’

They also warned him not to call the police, writes Broadcasting Zeeland. The victim, whose age has not been released, did so anyway. The boys were arrested that same day.

During the hearing two weeks ago, the older of the two stated that pedohunting was ‘a thing’ on social media at the time of the extortion. This is luring possible child molesters by pretending to be a minor on the internet. But the motive of the action was to make money quickly, he explained at the time.

In addition to community service, both young men must also pay the victim compensation of more than eight hundred euros.
