“Boys from 5 to 11 years old can already receive the third dose of the vaccine”

Boys and girls between 5 and 11 years old can now receive the third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine

The Buenos Aires Minister of Health, Nicolás Kreplak, reaffirmed this Thursday that “boys and girls between 5 and 11 years old can already receive the third dose of the vaccine against Covid-19 without an appointment at any vaccination center in the province of Buenos Aires” .

On Wednesday, The Government of the province of Buenos Aires began the application of a booster dose against the coronavirus in boys and girls between 5 and 11 years old, after 120 days of completing the initial vaccination scheme.

This new stage in the vaccination campaign is considered to have sufficient information on the safety of these vaccines in children and the arrival of the cold that brings the increase in respiratory diseases, so it becomes essential to reinforce vaccination schemes against the Covid-19.

That is why The Federal Health Council agreed on the need to move forward with reinforcements, since the effectiveness of primary regimens decreases over time, even in the pediatric population.

“We are giving the fourth free dose, without appointment, to all adults who have received their third dose four months ago and on Wednesday we begin to administer the third dose for children between 5 and 11 years old, which is free and federal,” Kreplak explained in statements to Public TV.

The head of the health portfolio warned that “We are in a fourth wave, which has important dimensions that cannot be quantified as before because the monitoring system has changed due to the enormous number of vaccinations”.

In another section of the interview, the official stated that “There are many cases, but without repercussion on hospitalizations or strong consequences for this disease”and clarified that, in fact, “there are more consultations for respiratory diseases than for coronavirus, as usually happens in winter.”

“The recommendation, since it is winter and since the Omicron subvariant is more contagious, is continuous cross ventilation, use of a mask in closed environments and vaccination,” Kreplak insisted.

From the Ministry of Health it was recalled that “The burden of Covid-19 disease in girls and boys is not as light as initially estimated” and it was noted that “this was confirmed with the Ómicron variant, and there is evidence of the possibility of cases with long-term sequelae, even in mild initial symptoms”.

The list of vaccination centers, which work from Monday to Monday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., can be consulted at https://bit.ly/3Nztgtz.
