Two key ministers from Prime Minister Boyko Borisov’s cabinet – finance Vladislav Goranov and energy Temenuzhka Petkova – will fly to a major international conference in Russia. The idea is for them to protect Bulgarian interests at the event in St. Petersburg. Some time ago, the Prime Minister stated that our country maintains good relations with Russia and gave the example of the visits of our ministers there.

The Bulgarian delegation will take part in the largest economic forum in St. Petersburg from June 18 to 22. The large-scale event is being held under the patronage of the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin. The master of the Kremlin will open the plenary session on June 19 at 2:30 p.m. local time, according to the forum’s official program. High-ranking sources from the Council of Ministers confirmed for “Standard” that the Bulgarian side in Russia will be Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov, Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova and Bulgartransgaz Executive Director Georgi Gegov. A key moment of the visit to Russia is the presentation of our diversification projects, government sources specified. Energy Minister Temenuzka Petkova will present the construction of intersystem connectivity between Bulgaria and neighboring countries. As is known, the annual consumption of natural gas in Bulgaria is about 2.8 billion cubic meters, of which 2.5 billion cubic meters are supplied from Russia. About 15 billion cubic meters of natural gas are transited through our country annually. 80% of the compressor stations in the region are located on the territory of Bulgaria, as well as the underground gas storage in Chiren. In the energy business card of our country in front of the participants of the St. Petersburg Forum, the data will be noted as important elements, which, in combination with the rehabilitation and modernization of the gas transmission and national system, will allow the diversification of natural gas sources. According to preliminary information, the members of the government delegation will also have bilateral meetings with their Russian counterparts.

Petersburg World Economic Forum is among the most significant events. Leaders from more than 70 countries comment within a few days on key economic, political, energy and social issues. Partners of the event are some of the largest international corporations. According to the official data of last year’s forum, 7950 leading experts, politicians and managers from all over the world took part in it. And there are 175 signed agreements.
