/ world today news/ The wiretapping of politicians and citizens during the protests against the government last summer went on almost around the clock. And the employees were also paid as overtime. This was announced by the acting Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Boyko Rashkov before the BNR.
“They worked almost around the clock, without a day off – that’s how many citizens were observed. With a lot of overtime, which was usually paid then, they didn’t get any other time compared to the height of the protests,” he added.
In May, the co-chairman of Democratic Bulgaria, Gen. Atanas Atanasov reported that, according to his information, 32 opposition politicians from three parties, defined as protest parties, were wiretapped at that time. Rashkov himself recently also announced that there was wiretapping, which he said was the initiative of the prosecutor’s office.
“The Minister of the Interior is a political person. For this reason, the minister cannot interfere in the work of the bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. I do not supervise the employee who carries out the inspection assigned to him,” Rashkov said.
The relationship between a minister and an employee who works in a depoliticized department is radically different than some allowed themselves ten years ago to discuss the cases pending in the National Investigation Service in the home of the then Prime Minister Borissov together with one of his ministers and with the Sofia city prosecutor Nikolay Kokinov, he commented.
“Has the public forgotten that there was an intercepted conversation between the three discussing a criminal proceeding in which the Minister of Agriculture at the time is also expected to be charged?” If they acted like that then, and perhaps later, to discuss criminal cases in their homes together with potential defendants on the one hand, with a prosecutor who exercises leadership functions in the city prosecutor’s office and let’s not forget the Prime Minister of Bulgaria, there are no such relations in the Ministry of Internal Affairs at the moment,” Rashkov stressed. According to him, all persons who have information on this case should have been heard.
“Acting magistrates, judges, prosecutors and investigators do not have immunity from summons and hearing. It is specified in the law who has immunity. As for those who were prosecutors, such as Nikolay Kokinov or Miroslav Naydenov, who was a minister, I see absolutely no legal obstacle for them to be heard. We all know that when a recording with Borisov was published, then he justified that he was bugged in his home. The operative service must do what is necessary to listen to him as well,” explained Rashkov. He specified that in the audio recording itself he is heard commenting on a criminal case together with his minister, who was somehow involved in this case, and with the city prosecutor, who not only participated in the conversation, but prayed to the Prime Minister to make it an appellate prosecutor.
Do you remember his line about Tsatsarov: “you chose him”. These are shameful facts from the history, both of the Bulgarian magistracy and in relation to the rulers who have taken power and are beginning to experience themselves as those who can do whatever they want, including taking actions contrary to the Constitution and the laws in our country,” said Boyko Rashkov.
“The prosecutor’s office has been inactive for these 70-80 prosecutors, judges and politicians who have not declared their properties and accounts abroad. I have evidence of this,” Rashkov said. It is about a list of persons holding senior public positions, for whom the State Agency of Internal Affairs has already checked in 2019 and reported to the prosecutor’s office.
“The prosecutor’s office has delayed clarifying this matter so as not to get in trouble with the executive branch. They probably have even more nefarious intentions. These people on the list are easy to manipulate. A judge or a prosecutor can decide a case as the superiors tell him, so that the facts do not come to light,” Rashkov said. According to him, it is not by chance that the Prosecutor General has such support in the institution he leads. The list of people with undeclared accounts and properties abroad included a senior prosecutor and his wife.
“These judges, prosecutors, mayors, politicians have not declared their assets abroad for unclear reasons. Probably because of their acquisition through corrupt practices. For half of them, the checks have been completed, but the prosecutor’s office is silent,” said Boyko Rashkov.
