At the beginning of 2020, the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office instituted pre-trial proceedings against an official of the Varna municipality administration for leading and participating in a criminal group for fraud and document crimes since January 2016.
This was said by Interior Minister Boyko Rashkov when asked by MP Tsoncho Ganev during the parliamentary control.
Rashkov pointed out that the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime in Varna received information in 2019 about illegal actions by employees – experts in the administration of the municipality of Varna. The data was that benefits were received and distributed, which damaged the municipal budget in large amounts. A reference was made by collecting data on corrupt activities, which was sent to the Special Prosecutor’s Office.
In February 2020, the prosecutor’s office initiated pre-trial proceedings. Numerous interrogations and examinations were conducted in the course of the investigation.
In October 2021, a report was sent to the supervising prosecutor. After that, the Special Prosecutor’s Office requested the materials from the pre-trial proceedings, but so far no instructions have been received from the Ministry of Interior, Minister Rashkov explained.
