Boyko Borisov Threatens Early Parliamentary Elections if Coalition Talks Fail

Once again, GERB leader Boyko Borisov announced that there could be early parliamentary elections if the partners in the “non-coalition” do not reach an understanding regarding the rotation of the government at the beginning of March.

If by March 8 there is no agreement with “We continue the change – Democratic Bulgaria” (PP-DB) on the coalition agreement, which GERB-SDS will present to them on March 6, we will go to new parliamentary elections, Borisov announced to journalists on the sidelines of the parliament.

He detailed the steps to be taken during the negotiations. “On March 5, we will present the coalition agreement to the party. On March 6, I will give it to PP-DB to read. On March 8, we have an EPP congress in Budapest. If we have agreed, we will move forward. If we have not agreed – we vote the resignation of Denkov and the cabinet, and we go to elections”said the leader of GERB.

“As far as I understand, the new parliamentary elections will be for regulators, we will not work for a parliamentary majority and a Council of Ministers. The regulators are largely extended by what the parliament and municipalities do”added Borisov.

He repeated that his party is “for” the European development of Bulgaria. “Europe works with coalition agreements, not with assemblies, snitches, quarrels. That’s why we will show composure and go the whole way that European solid parties go”Borisov said.

Gabriel: We will work for a mechanism in which responsibility is shared and brings transparency

We will work to have a mechanism in which responsibility is shared, to bring transparency, to clearly define the country’s priorities, but also to define responsibilities, said the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maria Gabriel.

“We want to provide this country with transparency, the fight against corruption, and the independence of the judicial system, and this should be done with a very clear decision-making mechanism. This is what lies ahead,” added the deputy prime minister.

There is no way we could have talked about signing a document that we ourselves have not yet discussed in the party and have not given to our partners, Gabriel said when asked if she had talked with Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov about the coalition agreement proposed by GERB.

When asked what are the boundaries that the partners should not cross, Gabriel answered: “the boundary of the Constitution, democracy, the rule of law and good European practices”.

“I believe in dialogue, in realizing what responsibility we bear. I believe in the fact that the country needs stability. I believe in the fact that Bulgaria has done a lot of good work in the last eight months and it is our responsibility to each one of us – and to the ministers, and to Prime Minister Denkov, and to the parliamentary groups that this should continue,” answered Gabrielle when asked if she was confident in the rotation.

The prime minister will hear her assessments of the ministers and then they will be presented to the political leaders, the deputy prime minister explained.

Peevski: It is important for DPS to have a government

On March 8, we will find out whether the PP-DB understood or they are children in kindergarten, commented the co-chairman of the DPS Delyan Peevski to journalists in the parliament.

“If they are reasonable people and serious politicians, they will not throw the country into a crisis. They will form a clear coalition so that there is nothing hidden and dark. After we see what they will do, we will assess who and how we will support”added the “Magnitsky” politician sanctioned under the global law.

Peevski said that it is important for DPS to have a government.

“Serious men must sit down seriously and negotiate in order to make a stable government. For the sake of Bulgaria. Party biases and all kinds of hot-headedness must be put aside. Yesterday I watched the Prime Minister, who is almost resigned, “come out” in an inappropriate way and behave like a man. Let him collect his self-confidence, let the party leaders negotiate and not do things that could push Bulgaria into a crisis. Let him learn to read, watch and I think that for these 9 months it is became wiser, but I did not see him yesterday”Peevski said.

“Elections are always an option. For DPS, this is a great option – 2 in 1, but it is not good for the country. We must think about the people. For DPS, the state and the people are important. Let others be like DPS and think about Bulgaria”added the chairman of the DPS parliamentary group.

Dissatisfaction with the work of the Minister of War

Boyko Borisov once again expressed his dissatisfaction with the work of the Minister of Defense Todor Tagarev, while in the meantime his hearing in the parliament is going on.

“From everything we found out yesterday is that Mr. Tagarev has not done a fifth of the work that the parliament gave him the opportunity to do”Borisov said.

“Hristo Grozev presented data that Bulgaria is being investigated for money laundering through the shipment of weapons to Ukraine. Remembering how in the assembly at the time it was said that we had not sent a single cartridge, at the same time publications in very serious publications said that we were among the first to give the most weapons to Ukraine”added the GERB leader.
