Calls to boycott some products of some companies, including PepsiCo in Egypt, a subsidiary of PepsiCo International, have spread on social media. Allegations have spread on social media indicating the cessation of the sale of the company’s products in Egypt, but sources have confirmed to Cairo 24 that it is not true to stop selling the company’s products in Egypt. Egypt and that the company is still operating in Egypt and distributing its various products within the Republic.
Some campaigns have called for a boycott of some products of companies that support Israel, especially the international parent company, as Israel is currently waging a war against the Gaza Strip and bombing its infrastructure, including hospitals, electricity and water facilities, and homes inhabited by civilians.
Egyptian companies have already begun exploiting the popular boycott campaign for Western products, especially American ones, which has expanded in scope and moved from social media platforms to the largest stores and commercial chains and reached small grocery stores.
Declining sales of American companies
Due to the decline in sales of foreign companies’ products and the distancing of a large segment of Egyptians from brands bearing the names of foreign companies, agents continue to offer huge offers and discounts that have reached more than 50% on some products.
Contrary to what was reported on social media regarding the huge discounts announced by Starbucks, the factories of Ariel, Persil, and other specialized products in various fields have announced huge discounts.
The major companies were not satisfied with offering offers and discounts, but some of them resorted, for the first time, to a temporary halt in collecting the value of the goods distributed to merchants, after some of them refused to download new products from the companies’ representatives, which led to the distributors contacting the parent companies, which proposed providing facilities. New, which is distributing goods without receiving money until the goods they have are sold.
At the forefront of these companies benefiting from the boycott campaign is Spiro Spates, which offers products similar to Pepsi and Coca-Cola.
The founding of Spiro Spates Company dates back to the 1920s, specifically in 1920, when the production of the first bottle of soft water began in Egypt, bearing the name Spates Lemonade. Over time, Spates products were able to conquer the markets by providing quality production that was accepted in all societal circles.
Currently, the company is looking to enhance its production plans by expanding the addition of production lines. The company has also opened a door for employment to provide new job opportunities while increasing production. It is also currently studying the addition of some new foods, such as diet products, in preparation for launching them during the coming period.
In September 2022, the food and beverage company PepsiCo stopped the production of Pepsi, 7 Up, and Mountain Dew drinks in Russia, about six months after the American company announced that it would suspend sales and production against the backdrop of Moscow sending tens of thousands of its forces to Ukraine.
The American company said in a statement at the time that it had stopped manufacturing Pepsi Cola, Mirinda, 7-Up and Mountain Dew concentrates in Russia.
The company has been operating in Russia for more than 60 years, and its products were one of the few Western products allowed in the Soviet Union before its collapse.
