After a children’s motocross accident, the boy was flown to the hospital. Because he doesn’t have a driver’s license, the insurance company won’t cover the costs.
The accident of their son could cost a couple from the district of Voitsberg (Styria) very dearly: The boy (12) rode his motocross near a pond on private property at the end of April. He fell with the vehicle, was given first aid by the Red Cross and then taken to the hospital in Graz by ÖAMTC helicopter.
The ÖAMTC charged around 2,800 euros for the helicopter transport. In addition, there are costs for the hospital stay, the treatment of the thigh bone fracture and the school leave allowance – in total around six to seven thousand euros, reports the “Kleine Zeitung”. The boy’s father assumed that his insurance company would cover the costs. But now he has received a warning from the ÖAMTC.

According to the insurance, not a classic children’s motocross machine
As a result, the Styrian found out that the insurance company was refusing to assume the costs. The reason given for the decision is that the boy did not have the “driver’s license prescribed for driving the motor vehicle” at the time of the accident. Because for the company, the vehicle with 125cc and a top speed of up to 80 km/h is not one of the “classic children’s motocross machines”. Even if the driver is driving on their own property, they would need at least a class AM moped driving license to cover the costs in the event of damage.
The family sees it differently: If you are on private property, a driver’s license for children’s motocross is not required. Because according to the Styrian State Police Headquarters, driving vehicles of this type without a driving license is permitted on private property, but not on the street. The family has therefore now engaged a lawyer in the cause, according to the “Kleine Zeitung”.
