The police are still in the dark about the serious assault of a teenager in Helmond. The 17-year-old boy was found unconscious on New Year’s Day around a quarter to six in a green belt near the Barrierlaan. He may have been hit with a bottle, police said. He was unconscious for half a day. But by whom and why is still the question two days later.
The victim was on his way home on New Year’s Eve. He is said to have been attacked from behind in the green belt between Barrierlaan and Johanna van Vlaanderenstraat. From behind, so it’s unclear how many perpetrators there were. The boy came from the direction of the Herberga van Bronckhorstlaan.
He regained consciousness on Saturday afternoon. He is now home. He is injured in the face but is doing well under the circumstances, the police writes.
It is not entirely certain, but the police assume that the assault took place between half past four and six.
The police are looking for witnesses and would like to have any CCTV footage. Very specifically, the search is on for someone on a scooter who was driving in the area around the time of the assault. He may have seen something.
Police previously reported that the boy was unconscious for a day and a half, but this was later corrected.
