Garibaldi Thohir aka Boy Thohir respond to questions Djarum Group and Sampoerna Group which denied supporting the presidential candidates Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
Boy previously claimed that one-third of contributors to the Indonesian economy were ready to help win the Prabowo-Gibran candidate pair in the 2024 presidential election, including Djarum Group, Sampoerna Strategic Group, and Adaro Group.
However, Djarum and Sampoerna denied this support in separate official statements.
Regarding this denial, Boy clarified the statement he made personally during a reunion with United States (US) Alumni. This statement of support was never made officially.
“So in my opinion the official statement from corcomm (company). So go ahead. “It’s true that each individual has political rights,” explained Boy at Pacific Place, South Jakarta, as quoted Second on Wednesday (31/1)
Boy expressed his statement at that time in the context of a personal statement at the reunion moment and was not a formal statement. The reunion was organized by Volunteer Erick Thohir so that those present were certain groups.
“Actually, in my opinion, it is the political right of each individual. I am just saying personally that my choice and perhaps some of my alumni friends rather than US graduates chose partner 02. Why? Because they have their own considerations,” he said.
According to Boy, one of the considerations he and his colleagues chose to support candidate pair 02 was because they wanted continuity of the policies that had been in place during the leadership of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
“What’s good, especially for me personally and also many friends and business people, see that Pak Jokowi’s leadership is extraordinary. You can see the complete top economy here (present),” he said.
