Boy seriously injured after handling fireworks on North Miami Beach – NBC Chicago

A child was seriously injured after allegedly tampering with some type of firework at a North Miami Beach home, police said.

The incident occurred in a home located on the 17000 block of 20th Avenue in northeast North Miami Beach.

City police said the boy sustained a serious injury to his hand while playing with an unknown type of fireworks, for which he was flown to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he is expected to recover.

The minor’s grandmother told Telemundo 51 that the child is 10 years old and stressed that an alleged explosion of the device caused damage to the glass of one of the patio windows of the house.

The fire chief confirmed that the boy suffered traumatic injuries from the fireworks, but the boy’s grandmother could not tell what the boy was holding.

“I don’t know what it was…because I was in the living room and when he ran away I immediately went out to call people,” said Juana López, the injured boy’s grandmother.

The lady could not identify what type of firework was manipulating the minor. The only thing she remembers about her, according to what she said about her, is that the boy came to her with a bloody hand and made a single request.

“When I see him I go like, ‘What is it?’ And he says to me: ‘he calls mom, calls mom’ “, says the woman.

No further details about the incident were released, but the minor was apparently in stable condition although some of his fingers would have needed to be amputated.

Ariel Guerrero, father of the boy who was in an accident, warns: “People say they heard a boom, but I’m not sure what it was.”

The boy’s father said that his son’s name is Ariel and he is 10 years old. When he found out what had happened, he went home since he was already at work. A few minutes later, he and his wife went to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

According to the parents, the minor is stable and in the hands of doctors, after the unexpected situation that caused the drama in a Dominican family in South Florida, when the eldest of four siblings suffered an accident following a strong explosion.
