Boy pulled from a ditch disappears without a trace; police and fire brigade search for teenager (17) for hours | Inland

Emergency services in the Hoeksche Waard were turned out en masse in the night from Saturday to Sunday because of the disappearance of a 17-year-old boy. The fire brigade deployed a drone team. After hours of searching, the teenager was found. Although he was quite cold, he was unharmed.

According to the police, the teenager had gone off the road with his bicycle at night between Numansdorp and Klaaswaal and ended up in the ditch. How that could have happened is unknown. A friend helped him out of the water and then went to get help. When they later returned to that spot, the boy had disappeared without a trace.

At 03.15 am, therefore, a major alarm was sounded. The police did so because of the danger of hypothermia and the possibility that the boy would end up in the water again. Eight police units, the fire brigade’s drone team, a police helicopter and the observation team began a lengthy search.

In the Hoeksche Waard villages, many people awoke from their sleep because of the search. In the end it went well. At 6:40 a.m., the search team found the boy, who was fine but had cooled down considerably. It is not clear why he left the place where he was pulled from the ditch.
