Jesse B. was an eleven-year-old boy from Winter Park, Florida. He died a tragic death after an ankle injury.
The story of Jesse B. started out fantastic and ended in a tragic way. When his parents – they come from Winter Park, a town of 30,000 in the US state of Florida – found out more than eleven years ago that a child was on the way, they could hardly believe their luck – ten years had already passed by then , without the wish for children being fulfilled. Now Betsy and Brad B. have to bury their son.
Eleven-year-old Jesse injured himself on the treadmill. The seemingly harmless ankle sprain ultimately led to the boy’s tragic death. Because to be able to heal his injury, Jesse received an orthopedic boot. But this apparently did not have the desired effect.
Because as the local broadcaster “Fox35 Orlando” reports, citing a cousin of the boy, the boy’s leg was covered with “purple-red spots that looked like bruises” just a few days later. However, these were not “bruise spots”. Doctors at the hospital determined the boy had contracted Group A streptococci.
Flesh-eating bacteria led to death
In the case of Jesse B., however, these rarely life-threatening bacteria caused a second infection that ultimately cost the boy his life. The stains on the child’s leg are said to have been caused by flesh-eating bacteria. According to the doctors, the boy’s ankle was weakened after the injury, which is why the infection may have started there.
The bacteria penetrated the boy’s immune system and subsequently caused the brain to swell. The 11-year-old died in hospital shortly after he was admitted.
