A five-year-old boy was able to get an early diagnosis after his parents saw a warning sign while he was in the bathroom.
William Nesbit’s parents saw that their son had a curve in his spine and contacted the doctors immediately at Alder Hey.

The young man was given a Boston brace, a type of plastic jacket that helped stop the progression of the curve in his spine, until he was 13 years old.
And at age 16, William was able to undergo life-changing surgery to correct his curved spine.
Speaking of his diagnosis, that is, William’s father, Will Nesbitt, told the ECHO: “We noticed that he had a curve when he was five when he was in the bathroom.
“We checked it and they sent us to Alder Hey and it was pretty early to detect it because it usually goes undetected until they are teenagers and have a growth spurt.
“They just said we couldn’t do much while he was little, so he had to wear a Boston brace for what it should have been every day, but he only wore it at night, so it didn’t affect his everyday life at night. school, until he could have the operation. “
Will was afraid his son might be bullied for wearing the brace, but found that he took it easy and learned to accept it.
