A 10-year-old boy trapped in a 35m deep hole at a construction site in Dong Thap province Vietnamdeclared dead. The boy died after falling into a hole for four days.
Reported by AFP extensionOn Thursday (5/1/2023), rescuers in Dong Thap province in the Mekong Delta tried to lift a pillar from a 35m (115ft) deep hole.
Doan Tan Buu, the deputy head of the province, said Wednesday that the boy had died.
“He was trapped in a very deep hollow pillar… with many injuries and no oxygen for a long time,” he told reporters at the construction site.
“We prioritized rescuing the boy. However, his condition did not allow the boy to survive,” he added.
Bu said the announcement of the boy’s death was made after consulting with medical experts.
Rescuers were determined to recover his body as soon as possible for burial, but Bu admitted it was “a very difficult task”.
It is known, as reported by AFP, on Monday (2/1), the boy named Thai Ly Hao Nam fell into a hole for a 25-centimeter-wide concrete pillar, which is part of a new bridge project in Dong province thap. The incident occurred when the boy was looking for scrap metal at the site.
