KOMPAS.com – A 5-year-old boy with the initials AFT, a resident of Bajang Village, Kabupaten PonorogoEast Java suffered burns after buying snacks ice smoke.
Ice smoke is an ice snack that can emit smoke because it is given nitrogen cair.
The incident began when AFT was with his father watching a reog show in Ngasinan Village, Jetis, Ponorogo, on Wednesday (13/7/2022).
Not far from the show, there are smoky ice vendors or ice smoke who peddled their wares for Rp. 20,000.
Curious about the snack, AFT asked his father to buy it ice smoke.
But unfortunately, after his father bought him ice smokethe snacks then emit a fire and burn the AFT.
“He asked to buy it, I immediately bought it. After leaving there, one minute after holding his snack, he held my child, the snack came out of fire, immediately burned my child,” said AFT’s father, Sutrisno, quoted from Kompas.comWednesday (13/7/2022).
Sutrisno then extinguished the fire that burned his son by hand and immediately took him to the Puskesmas.
Then, AFT was referred to RSU Muslimat Ponorogo for intensive treatment.

Chemist’s explanation
When confirmed, Professor of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Gadjah Mada University, Chairil Anwar said that liquid nitrogen is not flammable.
This is because liquid nitrogen has a cold and smoky temperature.
Therefore, Chairil does not know the cause of snacking ice smoke The nitrogen is flammable.
“Nitrogen very difficult or almost non-flammable,” Chairil told Kompas.comThursday (14/7/2022).

Chairil said that hydrogen is flammable, while nitrogen will be flammable when it has turned into explosives like trinitrotoluene (TNT).

However, solid carbon dioxide also includes materials that are difficult to burn.
“Carbon dioxide is also not flammable just to emit a kind of smoke,” said Chairil.
