Boy (8) bites cobra to death after reptile attacks him

A venomous cobra has died in India after being bitten to death by an 8-year-old boy after being attacked by the wild snake.

According to The New Indian Express The incident occurred on Monday in the Indian village of Pandarpadh in Jashpur district. Deepak, 8, was playing in his backyard on Monday when a venomous cobra bit his hand.

“The snake wrapped itself around my hand and bit me. I was in a lot of pain. Since the reptile didn’t move when I tried to shake it off, I bit it hard twice. It all happened in a flash,” Deepak told local media.

Deepak’s family rushed him to a local health centre, where he was administered anti-snake venom and taken for observation. Dr Jems Minj says Deepak luckily suffered a “dry bite,” meaning there was no venom in the snake’s fangs at the time. He was fired after one day.

Local snake expert Qaiser Hussain says cases of dry bites, while “painful”, are quite rare. Local journalist Ramesh Sharma says the district is also known as Naglok (meaning abode of snakes) due to the 200 different species of snakes in the district. “I have never encountered such an incident in Jashpur district,” Sharma said.

The Pandarpadh incident comes shortly after a 2-year-old boy was killed in Turkey in August a snake bites to death after biting her lip in her backyard.

“Our neighbors told me that the snake was in my daughter’s hand, she was playing with it and then it bit her,” said Mehmet Ercan, the boy’s father. Newsweek. “Then she bit the snake in response.”

It is unknown what kind of snake bit her, but whatever the case, the child survived and is very much alive.
