A 12-year-old boy was hit by a car during the evening four days in Strijen last night. The motorist drove on after the accident, several parents and children saw it happen. Paul Boogaard, the deputy mayor of the municipality of Hoeksche Waard, called the incident ‘really very violent’.
That’s what Boogaard said to AD Rotterdams Dagblad. He spoke to classmates and friends of the 12-year-old boy who had provided first aid after the accident. “This has made a huge impact on our village,” said Boogaard.
Multiple bone fractures
The collision happened on Waleweg in Strijen, how it could have happened is still unclear. The boy was taken to hospital with multiple fractures, but is not life-threatening.

The driver, who had driven home after the accident, was later arrested by the police. It concerns a 21-year-old resident of Strijen.
Eyewitnesses very shocked
The parents and children who saw the accident have been taken care of by Victim Support. Many of them were shocked, according to the police.
