Sergey Kovalev could be in hot water after broadcasting Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Callum Smith’s fight through his Instagram account.
According to Mike Coppinger of The Athletic, DAZN, who featured the fight, could potentially sue the boxer. Coppinger reports that DAZN would be evaluating all of its options at this time.
During the Alvarez-Smith fight, Kovalev joined a spike of 2,500 followers who followed the duel through his Instagram account. Since DAZN owned the broadcast rights to the event, this practice is considered illegal.
The 37-year-old boxer is however under contract with DAZN. His next clash against Bektemir Melikuziev is scheduled for January 30 in Moscow.
The former light heavyweight world champion has a record of 34 wins and four losses. Kovalev’s last fight dates back to November 2, 2019 against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. He was then knocked out. in the 11th round.
