Watch the injury that upset Mikaela Laurén in the player above.
The comeback in “Danish Fight Night” lasted only one round. Mikaela Laurén defeated Mariami Nutsubidze, who chose to throw in the towel.
“Don’t fake an injury”
The 25-year-old from Georgia grabbed her shoulder, and she said she couldn’t continue.
– I am very happy to be back in the ring. But I am very sorry that it was such a short match, says Laurén in Pluto TV’s broadcast and criticizes her opponent:
– I am so incredibly disappointed. Don’t fake an injury. I’m very angry, I’m very disappointed. I have been away for four years, I had hoped for a longer match.
New opponent at short notice
Laurén was actually supposed to face the Romanian Ioana Fecioru, who was fighting for an EC title as recently as last year. But at short notice, Nutsubidze was called in instead.
The Georgian has won only one pro match, out of a possible six, in her career. Laurén has 33 wins in 39 games.
48-year-old Laurén, who ended her career four years ago, recently told SVT Sport that her goal with the comeback is to become the oldest world champion of all time on the women’s side.
– Within a year, I hope to have reached there.
