“Boxing For Change”, boxing enters schools and prisons

Italy, Spain and Romania together to launch a targeted and concrete action, through the practice and values ​​of boxing, aimed at training, inclusion and social integration, respecting equal opportunities, of young people in schools and penitentiaries. Today, the gong rang during the online press conference “Boxing For Change – #WithBoxingYouLearn!”the international project, conceived and promoted by the Italian Boxing Federation, together with the partners Scholas Occurrentes – Pope Francis Foundation and the Romanian Boxing Federation, with associated partner Sport Senza Frontiere and in collaboration with the Spanish Boxing Federation, Eurocube and BlancDeNoir.

Scheduled for the two-year period 2024-2025 and selected by the European Commission as part of the Erasmus “Cooperation Partnership – Sport” call, the project is intended for 2000 young people, 1750 students, aged between 13 and 16, and 250 young people currently detained in juvenile prisons, with the involvement of as many as 40 institutes in the most disadvantaged and peripheral areas, considered at risk (37 secondary schools of first and second degree and 5 penitentiaries), of 80 federal technicians and 40 teachers already trained and operational.

“A value project that implements the training of a specific target, our young people, the subject of an Erasmus project. The three partner countries, which I sincerely thank, will work in synergy to train the children through a serious path, which represents hope for their future”, is the satisfied comment of FPI President Flavio D’Ambrosi. To share it, il Presidente di Scholas Occurrente José Maria del Corral: “An initiative in line with the message of peace of Pope Francis, founder of our association, who has always declared that change must pass through the education of young people, the only way to improve the world and sport, in this specific case gloves of boxing, transmit values ​​and rules useful for the purpose”.

The General Secretary of the FRB Daniel Ion is also proud to take part: “This union is aimed not only at enhancing boxing but represents an opportunity for growth and awareness for the kids who will finally be able to refer to motivational models”. Under the moderation of the FPI Project Manager Matteo Schiavone, the project phases were presented the FPI General Secretary Alberto Tappa: “The first step is the practical course in amateur and youth boxing, scheduled in the institutes during curricular hours, in which the children will be able to wear gloves guided by the Sports Technicians of the Federations of Italy, Spain and Romania, followed by the theoretical course in boxing and behaviour. ethical-social approach available on the FPI e-learning platform and the Scholas workshop, which is combined with the “Meeting with the Champion”, a moment of discussion with the six participating Ambassadors, examples of sport and life”.

The kids will be motivated by: Emanuel Blandamura (European Middleweight Champion), Michael Magnesi (IBO World Super Featherweight Champion) e Pamela Malvina Noutcho Okay (EBU Silver Lightweight Champion); for Spain Emmanuel Reyes (Bronze Medal Paris 2024 Heavyweights) e Ayoub Ghadfa (Silver Medal Paris 2024 Super Heavyweight); for Romania Robert Eusebiu Jitaru (Elite European Champion 2017-2018).

“Because the teachings of boxing – the speech of Scholas Sport Coordinator Mario Del Verme – do not only pass through technique and tactics but above all through the open question ‘who am I?’. With the “La Bella Giocata” workshop, each boy will talk about himself, dialogue with the Champions and their stories will intertwine on a canvas to give life to a collective story based on: Listening, Creativity and Celebrating”.

Everything will be supported by digital teaching, the dedicated website and the B4C App, essential for using the same language as young people, illustrated by the FRB Project Manager Silvius Buimistru. “It will be an honor to participate in all the project phases – as underlined by FEB President Felipe Martinez – and to experience and share the final event in Italy”.

The activities will end in the Joy Summer Camp, intended for children from schools selected on the basis of the #WithBoxingYouLearn contest, presented by SSF Project Manager Valentina Testa and SSF President Alessandro Tappa: “The real protagonists will be the young people. For fourteen years we have been using sport as a tool for social inclusion, education and well-being and now we are all called to an important challenge: winning for all the kids and for their future.”

Training on school desks and in prison that will become a story, through the docu that will be produced and disseminated on the Web and TV platforms to disseminate and give continuity to the lived experience, in line with the communication and promotion project illustrated by FPI Communications and Marketing Manager Michela Pellegrini.
