The boxing world hosted tragic news, as the boxer Mylik Birdsong, 31, was shot and killed during the afternoon of Sunday, September 29 in Los Angeles, California.
He Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) reported that the incident took place around 4:50 p.m. when Birdsong was outside a vehicle with his girlfriend inside.
The first investigations indicate that a dark-colored SUV passed along 87th Street and opened fire on Birdsong, while the suspects fled the scene. The police continue the investigation in search of those responsible.
“A dark-colored SUV passed eastbound on 87th Street and shot at the victim. The victim ran to his residence (when) two suspects in the vehicle began chasing him while they were shooting him,” added the spokesperson, who mentioned that, when he arrived at the entrance, the professional boxer fell to the ground”, an LAPD spokesperson told KTLA.

Zonyia Birdsong, mother of the boxer, gave an interview for Eyewitness News and indicated that he saw armed men kill his son outside his house.
“It’s just absurd. To me, it doesn’t make sense. I don’t know how to process it,” Zonyia said. “It’s a triplet. I lost his other two brothers at birth. “He survived… It’s like I’m numb.”
Zonyia said her son came home to have dinner with the family. Before he could get out of his car, some armed men arrived and started shooting him; Birdsong sHe got out of his vehicle and ran, but they followed him while they shot him. He said that when his son fell to the ground next to his house, he was shot and killed.
Birdsong owned a professional record of 15-1-1 with 10 knockouts. and was currently the World Boxing Foundation International Welterweight Champion.
He was also scheduled to fight Gor Yeritsyan on October 26 at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles.
