Box Office Weekend Results: The New Hunger Games, Trolls 3, Marvel Flop, and More!

The new Hunger Games aren’t exactly doing badly, but the brand is long past its zenith.

The world’s largest film market in the United States recorded over the weekend sales of more than 116 million dollars. This is the third best result since the end of the summer holidays. This time, the film industry owes it primarily to a large number of premieres interesting to the audience. It is impossible to talk about the fact that in cinemas there are always perennials.

The Hunger Games aren’t pulling that much anymore

They are the most watched movie of the weekend The Hunger Games: The Ballad of the Birds and the Snakes. The film took off in the United States 44 million US dollars. Other world markets combined brought in an amount of more than 54 million. In total, more than 98 million. In a vacuum, this is actually a pretty solid result.

It is possible that the film will end up grossing over a quarter of a billion in total. Ballad it had a budget of one hundred million and the cost of promotion could be around a similar figure. According to the magazine Deadline however, the production was able to write off twenty million thanks to filming in Germany, which attracts foreign crews with financial incentives. And while in the United States with the studio Lionsgate with cinema operators they share the income from each ticket sold in a ratio of roughly half to half, distributors from other countries bought screening licenses in advance for a total of about 65 million dollars. Although Lionsgate will receive a share of the tickets sold in these markets only when the local distributors are reimbursed the amount they spent for the license, however, the studio simply has some money in its pocket and does not have to worry about new Hunger Games industrial.

But when we add it all up, the profit will be for Lionsgate rather small and it is not excluded that some international distributors will end up in loss. So they don’t have to show interest in any other part. Any other Hunger Games the film will also have a higher budget, because the existing staff (even if it should only be the producers and the rest of the staff, including the actors, have changed) will automatically ask for higher salaries. Opening sales of 44 million are also about 58 million less than the weakest sales ever Hunger Games. So at this moment, everything points to another Hunger Games they probably won’t be created right away for cinemas. The brand may try on TV, but it seems that there is not enough interest in cinemas at the moment.

He holds the second position in the weekend ranking Trolls 3 with more than 30 million. The number one before the pandemic was able to take 16 million more at the premiere, but for a not very praised series, a premiere of thirty million is actually not bad. Trolls is definitely doing better on the starting line than most other anime from the post-covid era. But the final success will depend on whether the anime can stay in theaters for a longer period of time. In other markets of the world, the film has so far taken the overall box office 76 million. All in all, for the time being, the audience was throwing into the troll’s jukebox 108 mega. The budget was 95 million, so the film still needs to at least double its sales, tripling would be a certainty.

Marvel has a mega flop on its hands

Marvels dropped to third, maybe even fourth place. For now, only qualified sales estimates are available, and a thorough sum of income down to the last cent will be available only tomorrow. Only then will it become clear whether they turned out any better Marvels or horror Thanksgiving daywhen at this moment both films show the same amount 10.2 million.

But that’s a detail. Far more important is the fact that Marvels in short, they burned brutally. They were on the first place of the ranking only during the premiere, then they immediately fell and were not even enough for the second position. The comic book dropped by an absolutely incredible 78% percent, which is by far the most overwhelming drop in audience interest in history Marvel Studios. First Captain Marvel fell by 55% week-on-week. Black Widowwhich simultaneously went to cinemas and on Disney+, recorded a decrease of “only” 68%. And even this year’s spring was poorly received Ant-Man a Wasp: Quantumania he fared better when he fell by 70%. Which is a downright shame – such comic flops as Morbius (74%) a X-Men: Dark Phoenix (71%). Previous movies belonging to Marvel Cinematic Universe in addition, they fell from a much higher start, so that even a third of the sales of the second weekend were often a bigger package than the amount for which Marvels dug out at the premiere.

In total, it is taken in the USA 65 million dollars. Internationally, the comic book is claiming more 19 million and in the sum there are only lousy ones on the account 161 megawhich is the amount which Captain Marvel four years ago, it was only able to take the opening weekend in the USA! It doesn’t look like it could end up making more than a quarter of a billion dollars in theaters, with filming alone coming in at 220 million after tax credits and advertising costing another hundred mega at least. Marvel therefore, it has a multi-hundred million dollar flop on its hands, and we can only speculate whether there will be any further correction of future plans, in addition to the one that the studio already promised this summer.

As said before, horror Thanksgiving day had practically identical sales. During its weekend of screenings, it sold tickets for roughly 10.2 million. So far, another approx 2 million and the cost of production was fifteen million. This slayer will earn her keep. Even if viewers outside the US weren’t too interested in the holiday theme, Thanksgiving day would probably eventually be able to pay for itself at a gradual pace just by showing it in North America.

The elite five is rounded off by another horror film, Five Nights at Freddy’s. The video game movie is in its fourth week in theaters and interest in it is quickly waning. This time he only took it 3.5 million. But it does not matter. Filming was not expensive and it is almost sold out globally 272 million. “Freddy” thus becomes the second most successful horror film since the end of the pandemic. He still holds the championship A quiet place 2but it can be humbled – It took 297 million and Five nights according to analytical estimates, this can reach up to 320 million.

A low-key dramedy The Holdovers is gradually spreading from a few club cinemas to a larger and larger number of cinema halls. This weekend she managed to steal 2.7 million and the total is under the cap at the moment over 8 million. It’s not an extreme success, but if audience interest continues for some time, the ten million dollar budget from all sources combined should eventually pay off over time. And that is the most important thing for such independents, if they are to continue to be created.

He ends up in seventh place One goal, Taika Waititi’s new bittersweet comedy. And this despite the fact that the film was released in a large number of cinemas and the trailers look pleasant. However, the reviews were not exactly friendly and mainly the film is about football (i.e. football), which is not very popular in the USA. So more interesting sales could come from the rest of the world when the film starts showing there.

Unbelievably, the concert film still holds the top spot Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour. The originally planned four-week run has been extended to six weeks in several cinemas. This weekend, overseas sales rose further 2.4 million. It’s totally ripped off 244 million. The ninth position belongs to Priscilla. She took it 2.3 millionin total, the audience has paid for tickets so far million 17. And they fell all the way to ten Killers of the Blooming Moon. The fact that the audience is not very interested in the lauded, but demanding and long, historical drama has still not changed. Globally it is taken 145 million dollarsthe film is quickly losing theaters and will probably be making only a pittance soon.

Next week will roll in Napoleon a disneyovka Washingso there should be no shortage of interesting numbers.
