Discovered by lobster fisherman Jacob Knowles, the lobster, named Bowie, is the rarest lobster of its kind in the North Atlantic and possibly the world.
Its peculiarity consists in the fact that the specimen is divided into two: the left side is colored bright blue, while the right side remains typically orange. And Bowie also has characteristics of both sexes: he is both male and female.
This unique lobster caught the attention of social media cameras thanks to Knowles’s successful TikTok and Instagram channels, where he shares captivating lobster fishing moments. Scientists estimate that blue lobsters occur in one case in two million, and two-colored lobsters – in one in fifty million, which makes Bowie a truly unique specimen.
The lobster got its unusual name in honor of the late musical genius David Bowie.
Bowie is still under the care of specialists and aquarists, he received a temporary shelter in the oceanarium in Bar Harbor. His adaptation to the new conditions is going well and you can follow him both on site and on Knowles’ social networks.
