The Bovag deduces this from a study conducted at the end of July and the beginning of August among 1491 cars in the provinces of South Holland, Utrecht and Limburg. This would be 5.4 percent of the total fleet of almost 9.1 million cars.
Safety
In 2019 and 2020, 5.3 percent of drivers still drove on winter tires in the summer. Partly because more cars have been added since then, Bovag states that the total number of cars that continue driving with winter tires has grown by 16,000 compared to 2020. In 2019 the number was 470,000 cars.
According to the trade association, winter tires made of soft rubber wear extra hard at high temperatures and the car uses more fuel. The heat can also negatively affect road holding and produce more particulate matter.
