Bouzonville. Two gendarmes injured by a “crazy” motorist who tries to flee to Germany

The evening was not an easy one for the French and German authorities. Thursday evening February 4, the gendarmes of the Boulay company carry out checks within the framework of the curfew and border controls. It is 8:15 p.m. when a vehicle – a yellow Renault Master – refuses to comply in Bouzonville.

There are two people on board and the driver has no intention of stopping. He collided with the police vehicle and fled in the direction of Sarrelouis (Germany). The Polizei then tries to stop it but the motorist does not dismantle. He stamps four of their vehicles before returning to French territory. Sometimes he was traveling at high speed, sometimes in a moderate but dangerous manner, he again collided with two military vehicles.

The police do not engage in a chase, to preserve their security. They therefore keep a distance from the van which finally comes to a stop after exiting the road. The gendarmes get out of their car to stop him. The driver then backs up and hits two soldiers in the legs.

2:30 a.m. to handcuff him

An impressive device is deployed to stop the madman. Soldiers from the companies of Boulay, Thionville and Metz intervene. Mobile gendarmes, on a border control mission, are mobilized as well as a motorized brigade from Metz. In total, around thirty gendarmes are deployed, not counting the number of German police – five / six vehicles. A French helicopter lends them a hand.

Together, the police hold all the crossing points at the borders and enclose the vehicle that turns on the sector of Bouzonville, Colmen or Filstroff. It is immobilized with a stop stick barrage harrow. The fleeing driver was arrested at 10:40 p.m. by the staff of Boulay’s company before being taken into police custody.

A man already known to the police

The man in his forties is from Bouzonvillois. He was driving without a license, was released from prison and was the subject of an arrest warrant in Germany for drinking and driving. His passenger will be auditioned. He seems, at first glance, to have suffered the situation. The investigation is ongoing.

The two soldiers hit in the legs are currently undergoing a medical examination. Light damage is to be noted for French vehicles, but much more important for the Germans. A first estimate increases the bill to 10,000/15,000 €.
