The athletes who participated in the Tokyo 2021 Olympic and Paralympic Games were honored by the Region and the Objectif Médailles association at CREPS in Dijon on October 5. A way of saluting their journeys while wishing them a safe journey to Paris in 2024.
It is with great pleasure that Pascal Bonnetain, director of CREPS Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, spoke to an audience marked by many high-level athletes, supervisors and representatives of institutions accompanying all their preparations and performances.
Eight athletes took part in the Tokyo 2021 adventure
This Tuesday, October 5, 2021, it was to honor the athletes who participated in the Tokyo 2021 Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer.
Note that of the 22 athletes supported by the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté Region and its partners, 8 participated in the Games in Japan: Boladé Apithy in fencing (saber), Alexis Miellet in athletics (middle distance), Julien Casoli in para athletics , Cédric Fèvre in para rifle shooting, Alain Quittet in para shooting, Corentin Le Guen and Sébastien Verdin in wheelchair rugby and Léa Ferney in para table tennis.
Not all were able to respond present, held back by obligations of preparation or competition. All these athletes were applauded and congratulated by a whole assembly.
Christian Moccozet, president of the Objectif Médailles association, then Willy Bourgeois, vice-president of the Regional Council of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in charge of communication and sport, delivered words of encouragement to athletes, assuring them of support of the association and the local authority in the objectives pursued.
Objectif Médailles, created in 2011 and whose mission is to redistribute aid (Region, State, private) to athletes pursuing Olympic ambitions, could evolve in its form three years from Paris 2024.
As President of the Regional Olympic and Sports Committee, Chrystel Marcantognini praised the Olympic performances and values conveyed by these sportsmen.
Silver and gold
Beautiful moments of the reception at CREPS, the floor was then left to those first concerned by the Olympic and Paralympic adventures in Tokyo.
There was money, the medal brought back by the young Léa Ferney, but there was also gold, the medal of Pierre Terzi, physical trainer for the French women’s handball team.
This obviously without forgetting the athletes who trained to the end to be able to hope to take the direction of Japan. During the ceremony, Clément Jacquet (canoe), Vicky Graillot (weightlifting) and others were honored for their results and achievements at national and even continental level. The participants in the Games received a check for 1,000 euros in addition to the basket.
Many of them now have Paris 2024 in their sights. Before that, the Winter Games scheduled for February 4 to 20, 2022 in Beijing will not be lacking in interest either.
