Bourges 18 – Bourges Foot: a derby more than hot on the side of the Cher!

The two Bourges clubs, Bourges 18 and Bourges Football, will compete this Saturday (2 p.m.) for a place in the 7th round of the Coupe de France. Everything there is more “derby”, especially that one team plays in red and blue … and the other in green!

If Lyon – Saint-Etienne, 65 km away between the two cities, is a derby, then what can a match between Bourges and … Bourges be? Coincidentally arranged by the draw made according to the regions, the two clubs of this city of the Cher will be played much more than a 6th round of the Coupe de France. Although they are in the same group of National 2, the two clubs have not yet faced each other, since the amateur championships have been at a standstill for almost three months. The two teams, which only had about ten days to do an express warm-up, will benefit from the same level of physical preparation, which will allow fairness to be the order of the day; an equity that can be legitimately called into question when a National club – which has never stopped – faces a lower division club which, for its part, has lowered the curtain for 3 months.

A regular in the professional world on the 7th round?

In the previous round, each of the two teams had won 2-0. For Bourges Foot, it was against one of the heroes of the previous edition, Saint-Pryvé Saint-Hilaire, who notably brought down Toulouse FC in the 32nd round. And for Bourges Foot, it was a far from easy success on the lawn of Saint Amand Montrond. If the hierarchy is respected, the winner of this Berruyer derby will challenge the winner of the confrontation between Vierzon (N3) and Orléans (N1) in the 7th round. Among the designated “visitors”, the taste for the epic has not yet completely disappeared. Two years ago, they climbed to the 32nd final where Olympique Lyonnais beat them after nearly an hour of resistance.
