Valtteri Bottas did not escape punishment for the F1 Qatar GP. This Sunday (21), after investigation, the FIA stewards hit the hammer and the Finn loses three positions on the starting grid.
The Mercedes competitor had been under investigation since Saturday’s qualifying. The reason is that there was a suspicion that he would not have respected the single yellow flag at the end of Q3 when Pierre Gasly broke his front wing after catching a zebra.
“The stewards listened to the driver of car #77, the team representative, and reviewed the video, telemetry and inspectors’ system as evidence. The competitor admitted that he did not notice the yellow flag and acknowledged that he did not reduce the required speed, despite noticing the #10 car stopped on the track”, wrote the document of the inspectors.
With the punishment received, Bottas, who would start from third place and would be a threat to Max Verstappen, second, now drops to sixth place on the grid. Whoever ends up promoted to the front row is Pierre Gasly.
