Max Verstappen was able to pass Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas relatively easily at the start of the Mexican GP. The latter driver started from pole, but had a bad start. RacingNews365 asked the Mercedes driver if he could have done more in fending off Verstappen’s race start. “Yeah, probably,” he had to admit.
“I’m very honest with myself. Looking back on the situation, I would have done things differently, although it’s easy to say in retrospect. At the time, I thought I had made the right choices.” Bottas admits he would have acted differently if he could do the situation over. “Maybe there was a way to block Max or prevent him from going outside.”

Bottas: “I did my best”
A different approach could still have been beneficial for Verstappen, Bottas argues. “Maybe he would have had a chance to cross in. I don’t know. At the moment I did my very best and that’s all I can do.”
Bottas has watched the videos of the race start in Mexico several times. “Of course I saw it,” continues the Mercedes driver. “If I’m in the same situation again, maybe I could have done a little better, but maybe not.”
