Bottas can breathe a sigh of relief after news from Wolff

Like a true bowling ball, Valtteri Bottas knocked several cars out of the race in turn one at the Hungaroring because he braked. After the race, he acknowledged his mistake, but was immediately asked whether he thought his action would have any consequences for the contract negotiations with Mercedes.

Bottas waved that suggestion to, among others, RacingNews365 off. “I don’t think one race will have an impact, I don’t think that. We’ll see what happens in the coming weeks,” he said.

Of course it is not up to the driver himself to say anything of value about that. Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff determines who will enter the garage next year next year. But the Austrian also sees no reason not to continue with Bottas because of this incident.

“The mistake was unfortunate with serious consequences. He was sandwiched by the two cars in front of him, lost a lot of downforce and by then it was already too late,” Wolff told this site. “But it doesn’t affect the decision at all.”
