President Yoon Seok-yeol said, “The central electoral district system needs to be overhauled.
This is what I said in an interview with Chosun Ilbo, which I chose instead of the New Year’s press conference.
National Assembly Speaker Kim Jin-pyo also presented a program and called for reform of the electoral system.
Since the beginning of the new year, the topic has been thrown into politics.
Let’s first look at Kim Jae-kyung’s report, and then continue the related story.

President Yoon Seok-yeol launched the “Central Election District System” as a New Year’s topic.
In a New Year’s interview with the Chosun Ilbo, he said, “Ways to further strengthen representation through the central electoral system need to be considered.”
Regarding the current single constituency system, he said: “When we went all-or-nothing, the elections became too fierce, the camps polarised, and the conflict deepened.”
National Assembly Speaker Kim Jin-pyo also contributed.
President Kim suggested amending the election law, saying, “The current single constituency system has many resignations, so the will of the people is not adequately reflected in the election results.”
At the same time, at a meeting attended by all 300 members of the National Assembly, I ordered that it be confirmed by March.

“Conservative politicians are elected in Honam and progressive politicians in Daegu and Gyeongbuk, and such a political system can reflect the local vote well…”
The current single constituency system elects only one person for each constituency.
On the other hand, the average constituency system is a system where two, three and four people are selected by enlarging the constituency.
This prevents the winner from taking all and increases the chances of more parties entering parliament.
Last week, 49 members of the National Assembly even staged an event to propose a change to the major constituency system.

“I am immersed in the politics that separate my side from the four sides. The will of more people is represented, so we have to create a National Assembly that looks like the people.”
There are still 1 year and 3 months left until the next general election.
The reform of the electoral system has been heating up the political world since the beginning of the new year.
