Despite the triumph, Botafogo continues to lead the Brasileirão 2023 in a prominent way.
Botafogo lost, last night, by 2-1 against Flamengo, for the Brasileirão. It was the second consecutive defeat, after the elimination against Defensa y Justicia, for the South American Cup.
Flamengo gained the advantage after just two minutes, thanks to an own goal by Marlon Freitas. Botafogo still tied, through Victor Sá, but Bruno Henrique, after 73 minutes, dictated the final result with an accurate shot.
Despite the defeat, Botafogo remains at the top of the Brasileirão rankings, with 51 points, 11 more than Palmeiras, by Abel Ferreira, who this Sunday, starting at 8:00 pm (in mainland Portugal) face Corinthians.
Even so, and even with that large advantage at the top, Bruno Lage decided to make the place available during a post-match press conference that lasted for several minutes.
“I have a contract with Botafogo until December, it’s a lot of salary money, I have prizes that are practically guaranteed for going to Libertadores. There is the champion prize, but I have no problem giving it up, because I am not greedy for money”, he said.
“That just looking at my career at Botafogo, I think it puts a lot of pressure on the players. And that I don’t accept! There’s only one way to protect them and to free them from this pressure. And that’s why I’m here before you I didn’t talk to anyone, I thought a lot and at this moment I put my position at the director’s disposal, at the president’s disposal”, he advanced.
“I cannot allow the pressure that is being put on me to be put on my players. It has been noticed. That’s what I have to say. My place is at the disposal of those in charge, without anything else to say “, he added.
Bruno Lage also left complaints to the arbitration: “I have seen so many decisions by VAR. And today, strangely, our opponent’s goal attempts, I think they deserved at least one call of attention to be analyzed. In the second goal there is a clear foul: Tchê Tchê is pushed from the back”.
According to Globoesporte, after the press conference, Bruno Lage met with directors André Mazzuco and Alessandro Brito, as well as with the owner of SAD, John Textor, who participated via telephone.
