Despite playing the entire second half with one more player, the Botafogo missed the chance to debut in Copa Sudamericana-2023 with a good victory and was only in the draw in 2 a 2 as Magellan this Thursday (6/4), at El Teniente Stadium, in Rancagua. The result is bad, since the direct rival for the first place, LDUwon in the round away from home.
Botafogo took the lead early in the game. At five minutes, Magallanes went out of defense, Tiquinho Soares pressed the mark on goalkeeper Gastón Rodríguez and made it 1 to 0.
The goal at the beginning could make things easier, but Botafogo insists on getting in the way. At 16 minutes, Di Placido lost the individual duel with Zapata after launching, the move continued, Villanueva rolled from the left and Alfred Canales, free of the mark, completed for the goal, tying for Magallanes: 1 to 1.
After the tie, Magallanes started to enjoy the game more, taking advantage of Botafogo’s disorganization and mistakes. At 25 minutes, another dangerous move by the Chileans, Zapata passed Lucas Perri and Marçal saved inside the area, but there was already an offside.
In a rare flash, Gustavo Sauer made a good move on the left and reversed it to Victor Sá, who cleared the marker and shot into the goalkeeper’s hands. Afterwards, Magallanes again arrived with danger, with a free kick by Tomás Aranguiz that Lucas Perri palmed into the left corner.
The thing was ugly, but it became clearer after Villanueva made a strong tackle on Eduardo and was expelled, leaving Magallanes with one less. Then Botafogo took over the game. At 11 minutes, Gustavo Sauer touched, Tiquinho Soares scored backwards and Gabriel Pires missed another good chance.
However, in the next bid, came the second alvinegro goal. Marçal took a corner from the left, Gabriel Pires scored with his chest and Eduardo did not forgive: 2 to 1. The same Eduardo would almost score the third, hitting the crossbar, with a free kick in the 18th minute.
The game seemed under control, but then Tchê Tchê missed an easy back pass, Contreras caught the ball, passed Victor Cuesta at speed and touched Lucas Perri’s exit, tying the game at 2 to 2. And that with Botafogo with one more, good to remember…
After that, Botafogo did little to scare, except for a free kick by Lucas Fernandes. It needs to improve (and a lot!) if Glorioso wants something this season…

Botafogo returns to the pitch next Sunday (9th) to face Audax, at 4 pm, in Volta Redonda, for the Rio Cup title – in the first game, a 2-1 alvinegra victory. Then, next Wednesday (12th). ), has a challenge against Ypiranga, in Erechim, in the first duel valid for the third phase of the Copa do Brasil.
