O Botafogo is locked in an intense duel in the transfer market with Benfica, from Portugal, for the signing of striker Benjamín Rollheiser, Estudiantes’ standout player in the last season of Argentine football.

Rollheiser is a 23-year-old striker revealed by the River Plate academy, one of the best formations in Argentina. Having spent time with the under-17 team, he turned professional in 2019, but had few opportunities in the Millionarios.
After three seasons, he left the training team at the end of his contract and joined Estudiantes, where he became prominent, especially in the 2023 season, in which he played 57 games, scored 12 goals and provided 7 assists.
Sérgio Santana talks about Botafogo’s dispute with Benfica over the signing of Rollheiser, from Estudiantes: “The player’s staff forces Europe”
Benjamín is left-footed and plays wide on the right wing, a sector in which Júnior Santos was a starter for most of last season with Botafogo, and has typical characteristics of an inverted winger.
– He is a creative, dynamic attacker and likes to attack the mark. He is very good one-on-one and stands out for finishing from medium and long distances – said journalist Manuel Elicabe, from Radio Provincia.

Two of Rollheiser’s best matches for Estudiantes were against Brazilian opponents. In the Copa Sudamericana, he scored three goals in the round of 16 against Goiás, two in the first leg and one in the return, in addition to being the most dangerous player in the duel against Corinthians, in the quarterfinals.
As a young player, 23 years old, the number 10 needs to work on some aspects that especially involve decision making, says journalist Manuel Elicabe.
– Sometimes he’s a little distracted. He can improve in finishing plays, both in scoring and assisting his teammates.

Alvinegro’s proposal was over 8 million dollars (R$ 39.3 million at current prices), which would be paid in installments until 2025. This would place Rollheiser as the club’s most expensive signing. Benfica also signaled similar figures to Estudiantes.
Botafogo offered a higher monthly salary and bonus to the midfielder compared to Benfica. Rollheiser is also seen as the big name that would arrive in the offensive system this season.
Rollheiser’s staff prefers to play in European football and “forces” a move to Benfica. In conversations, the athlete’s manager states that “he has already closed with Benfica”, but the hammer has not yet been dropped on either side.
The player also dreams of playing on the Old Continent, but has advantages in the proposals from both sides. Regarding Europe, one of the factors presented by Botafogo’s project is the ease of operating in Europe in the medium term, given the club’s proximity to Crystal Palace and Lyon, which also belong to John Textor.
