O Botafogo defeated the Francana (SP) 1-0 this Monday (8/1), at the Lanchão Stadium, in Franca, and advanced to the second phase of the São Paulo Cup with 100% success, leading Group 5. The goal was scored by Kayke, taking a penalty.
Glorioso now waits for second place in Group 6, which will only be defined this Tuesday. Chapecoense (4 points), Novorizontino (4) and Jacuipense (3) are the teams that could cross Alvinegro’s path, still on a date to be confirmed by the FPF.
The game
Needing to win by two goals and pushed by the local fans, Francana started putting pressure on Botafogo. Just a minute into the game, Higor shot dangerously and, two minutes later, black and white goalkeeper Heitor had to work, making a great save from Luquinha’s low shot.
Botafogo had the first chance in the eighth minute, when João Guilherme put the ball in and Kayke shot over the goalkeeper. Francana got scared again in the 12th minute, with a strong left leg finish from Diego. The match was far from easy for Fogão.
However, Botafogo managed to open the scoring soon after. At 16 minutes, Kayke entered the area and was pulled by Pedro Henrique. The same Kayke took the low penalty and made it 1-0. Only after the goal did Glorioso actually manage to control the match.
In the second half, Botafogo showed much more organization than their opponent and continued to control the game, without conceding. In the 24th minute, Vargas, who had just entered, had the chance to increase, but Michel saved it. Close to stoppage time, Rhuan wasted another chance, and Fogão ended up winning even with the minimum count.
