Jorge Alfaro did everything in his power in the Spring Training to earn a spot on the Boston Red Sox roster for Opening Day. The Colombian catcher was one of the Red Sox’s best hitters in the preseason, but the team decided to send him to Triple-A to start the year.
In nine games, Jorge Alfaro consumed 23 legal shifts and responded with 11 hits. He had three doubles, two home runs, drove in six runs, scored three times, walked one and struck out six times. His offensive line was a stout .478/.520/.870, accompanied by a 1.390 OPS.
Alfaro he lost the battle to be the backup catcher to American Connor Wong, who has only 33 games of major league experience. Instead, Jorge Alfaro has almost 500 regular round commitments to his credit (478). Although he is injured, the Red Sox expect Wong to be available for Opening Day on Thursday.

“Giving up is not an option”Alfaro tweeted when he found out about the red-legged decision.
Boston’s starting mask to start the regular season will be Reese McGuire, acquired from the Chicago White Sox in August of last year in exchange for left-handed pitcher Jake Diekman.
Jorge Alfaro will have to fight with his game in Triple A, hoping for a prompt promotion to the big team in case someone gets injured or the team needs offensive help. The native of New Granada has seven tournaments in the Major Leagues and last year he participated in 82 duels with the San Diego Padres. He has never played in the American League until now. It will dawn and we will see!
