Boston limits the damage in win vs. Miami

BOSTON – At Fenway Park with no flow restrictions for the first time since the pandemic, Nathan Eovaldi worked 5 1/3 innings and the Boston Red Sox beat the Miami Marlins 3-1 on Saturday night.

Bobby Dalbec, Kevin Plawecki and Hunter Renfroe each had RBI singles for Boston, which won for the seventh time in nine games and posted its ninth straight home win over the Marlins.

This time, the triumph caused a more noticeable jubilation in the traditional park, recently remodeled. The fans made a scandal after the interpretation of the national anthem and after Eovaldi threw a fastball that struck the Dominican Magneuris Sierra, the first batter of the match.

Despite the drizzle and cold, the park looked about half full in the first meeting since sanitary restrictions were lifted in Massachusetts. 25,089 fans officially attended.

Eovaldi (6-2) allowed four hits, struck out seven opponents and walked one. Matt Barnes got the last three outs for his 12th save in 13 attempts.

Trevor Rogers (6-3) allowed two runs in six innings to take the loss.

Boston manager Alex Cora was absent from the game. He traveled to his native Puerto Rico to attend his daughter Camila’s high school graduation.

For the Marlins, the Dominicans Sierra 5-3 with a run scored, Starling Marte 3-1, José Devers 4-1. Venezuelans Jesús Aguilar 5-1 with an RBI, Sandy León 3-0. Puerto Rican Isan Díaz 3-0. Colombian Jorge Alfaro 1-1.

For the Red Sox, Puerto Rican Kiké Hernández 4-0. The Mexican Alex Verdugo 4-0. The Dominican Rafael Devers 4-3 with two runs scored.
