The Boston Celtics mocked Russell Westbrook after beating the Los Angeles Lakers by a clear margin.
After the 130-108 victory in TD Garden, ex-Laker Dennis Schröder was with NBC Sports Boston in an interview as a guest. While the German said a few words about the game, The sentence “Y’all paying Russ $ 44 million lol” was faded in next to his name in the belly band, in German something like “You really pay Russ (Westbrook) $ 44 million lol”.
In the summer, LA decided to trade in Westbrook and not make a new offer to Schröder after he turned down $ 84 million over 4 years during the season. At the Lakers, Westbrook is to form a new Big Three together with LeBron James and Anthony Davis, but is currently well below expectations.
His odds are still below his career averages (42.8 percent from the field, 30 percent from downtown, 68.8 percent from the free-throw line), his defense is also sometimes dizzying and in the minutes without LeBron he doesn’t manage the offensive Bear Lakers.
NBA: Schröder always better for Boston
Westbrook also remained pale for a long time against Boston, only scoring 12 points (5/13 FG) and taking some wild threesomes early in the shot clock. Schröder, on the other hand, is finding his way around Boston better and better and has been allowed to start since Jaylen Brown was injured.
He pays back this trust, over the season he has 17 points and 5 assists at 44 percent from the field and 32 percent from outside. Against the Lakers he was the third-best thrower with 21 points and 6 rebounds after Jayson Tatum (37) and Marcus Smart (22) and with his lightning-fast drives he could not be stopped by the Lakers defense.
Westbrook is still under contract for two years and a total of 91 million with the Lakers, he earns 44 million this season alone. Schröder, however, signed with the Celtics for 5.9 million and only one year.
