IN BOSTON, ME.– With a total of 29 triplets, the Boston Celtics began their journey with a 132-109 victory over the New York Knicks, to begin the defense of their champion title yesterday, Tuesday, October 22, in the first game of the new season.
Jayson Tatum led Boston’s offense with 37 points, 10 assists and 8 triples, in the game played at the TD Garden, whose opening ceremony began with the presentation of last season’s championship rings.
Tatum set the offensive pace, scoring 15 points in the first quarter of the game.
The 29 three-pointers the Celtics scored tied the previous NBA best record, held by the Milwaukee Bucks since December 2020.
Dominican Al Horford (11 points) hit the 29th triple with 8 minutes and 54 seconds left in the game, but the Celtics substitutes then missed 13 attempts to set a new record.
The Celtics, on offense, showed their authority against the Knicks, the team that was most strengthened this offseason, with the signings of Karl-Anthony Towns and Mikal Bridges.
The Celtics aspire to be the first champions to retain the trophy since the Golden State Warriors in 2018.
To begin their goal, the Celtics started the new season winning, a game in which they exhibited their 18th title that makes Boston the winningest franchise in the league.
For the Knicks, point guard Jalen Brunson and reserve guard Miles McBride stood out offensively, both with 22 points, while Mikal Bridges scored 16 points.
In the match-Shop between Dominicans, Karls-Anthony Towns of the Knicks did not have a good debut, as the new face of that team, as he had 12 points and 7 rebounds, while Al Horford finished with 11 points, after scoring Boston’s 29th hat trick.
For the Celtics, Derrick White finished with 24 points and 6 triples and Jaylen Brown with 23 and 5 triples.
On offense, Bosto never lowered his production, reaching a 35-point lead.
