Boston Celtics Honors Maine Shooting Victims in Home Opener

The Boston Celtics NBA recognized the victims of this week’s mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine, before their home opener.

Boston players wore the legwarmers of their NBA G League affiliate, the Maine Celtics. The Celtics also put a band on their jerseys to honor the state as it recovers after a shooter killed 18 people and wounded 13 at a bowling alley and a bar there.

The band on the jersey simply read “Maine” and was placed above the Vistaprint-sponsored logo patch.

Fans also observed a moment of silence before the game as a green and white image of the state outline was displayed on the jumbotron.

Triumph with special dedication

The Celtics won at TD Garden 119-111 against the Miami Heat on a great night from Derrick White, adding 28 points, 3 assists and 6 rebounds.
