The Boston Bruins have set the NHL record for most wins this season and have three games left to break. The Bruins reached the historic mark of 62 wins, which the Detroit Red Wings (1995/96) and Tampa Bay Lightning (2018/2019) had also achieved, with a 2-1 win over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday. Minnesota Wild defeated the St. Louis Blues 5-3, but Marco Rossi stayed with the farm team for the time being.

“It’s special, without a doubt,” said Boston captain Patrice Bergeron of the record set by Czech Pavel Zacha’s two goals. The Bruins are one of the league’s six founding teams, but have only won the Stanley Cup once in the past 50 years (2011). After perhaps the best regular season in NHL history, they not only start the playoffs with the top seed, but also as the top favorite in the playoffs.

Connor McDavid also reached a historic mark. The Edmonton Oilers star struck twice and also provided an assist in the 6-1 win over the San Jose Sharks. The 26-year-old Canadian now has 151 points and became the sixth player in NHL history to surpass 150 in a single season . Wayne Gretzky had done this nine times, Mario Lemieux four times. It’s the first 150-point season by a player since Lemieux in 1995-96.

Like Edmonton, Minnesota already has the playoff ticket secured in the Western Conference. In terms of personnel, there was good and bad news for the Wild. On the one hand, two wingers got fit in good time before the start of the knockout phase. Star striker Kirill Kaprisow, the team’s number one with 39 goals this season and 74 points, had to sit out 13 games due to injury and made his comeback against St. Louis. Gustav Nyquist, acquired from the Columbus Blue Jackets in March and also injured, made his debut in the Wild jersey with two assists.

With Mason Shaw (season end), Joel Eriksson Ek (week-long absence) and Oskar Sundqvist (several days missing), however, three Minnesota centers have been injured since the beginning of the month. Vorarlberger Rossi was not initially ordered to St. Paul, but stayed with the Iowa Wild farm team, with whom he won a 3-2 win over the Chicago Wolves in the American Hockey League (AHL) on Saturday. Because Minnesota also plays with the Blackhawks in Chicago on Monday, the 21-year-old could already join the NHL team there.
