Bossi-Fini Law, “Abolish it”: over 23,000 signatures for the petition on the change.org platform

ROMA – The mobilization of Italian citizens who, in the middle of summer, committed themselves to signing the petition launched by theMigrate Association on the platform change.org for the abolition of the Bossi-Fini Law which constitutes the real obstacle to the integration of immigrants. The permanence of the Bossi-Fini Law n. 189/2002 in the Italian legislative panorama has so far demonstrated the political will to maintain the precariousness of immigrants by denying their rights and causing damage to social, economic and security reasons in Italy: “an evident contradiction based on the hypocrisy of this law which is unworthy of a Western Republic”, we read in a document released by theMigrate Association.

So that cases like that of Sarnam Singh do not happen again. The thousands of Italians who are signing the petition in these hours evidently also have the meaning of a battle so that cases like the death of the farm worker Satnam Singh, the Indian farm worker who died in the San Camillo hospital in Rome on June 19, two days after being abandoned by his employer in front of the house where he lived in the province of Latina, never happen again. The car of the agricultural company where he worked illegally had severed his arm and broken his legs, while he was harvesting melons. In front of his house, together with the dying man, the severed arm was also left in a fruit crate.

Dignity and realistic approach to the migration phenomenon. Those signatures also aim to recover social dignity and a more realistic approach to the phenomenon of immigration, joining the adhesion of a long list of exponents of Italian politics, the world of culture, information and civil society, who have already signed including: Roberto Speranza, Arturo Scotto, Gennaro Migliore, Mario Morcone, Maria Cuffaro, Gianni Pittella, Corradino Mineo, Enzo Nucci, Vincenzo Vita, Massimo Cacciari, Nicola Fratoianni, Maria Cecilia Guerra, Alfredo D’Attorre, Michele Santoro, Pietro Grasso, Lia Quartapelle, Angela Caponnetto, Giuseppe Rossodivita, Sergio D’Elia, the Bishop Monsignor Giorgio Bertin, Nichi Vendola, Rosa D’Amato, Rosy Bindi, Silvia Resta, Flavia Fratello, Pier Luigi Bersani.

The invitation to sign. “We invite citizens to join the petition again – we read in the note from theMigrate Association – to urge the parliamentary institutions to abolish the Bossi-Fini Law and for the reform of the citizenship law.
