Surabaya, CNN Indonesia —
Producer entrepreneur oxygen and founder of the Samator Group, Arief Harsono died from infection Covid-19 on Friday (2/7) nights. He breathed his last at the Adi Husada Hospital in Surabaya.
This sad news was conveyed by Arief’s colleague, who is also a businessman and CEO of Tancorp, Hermanto Tanoko through his Instagram @htanoko social media account.
“Indonesia has lost one of the largest gas entrepreneurs in Indonesia. Ir. Arief Harsono, MM., M.Pd.B., the boss of the Samator Group who breathed his last at 21.30 WIB, Friday 2 July 2021, @RS Adi Husada, Surabaya,” wrote Hermanto, quoted on Saturday (3/7).
Hermanto said that Arief had established Samator since 1975 and until now the Samator Group has grown large with the facilities of more than 50 oxygen plants and 100 filling stations.
Samator also provides a range of gas products and services to meet market demand with the largest and widest distribution network in Indonesia.
“Including areas that are not commercially profitable,” he said.
In Arief’s hands, Samator Group has grown into a multi trillion rupiah company with more than 3,000 employees.
“In 2004, Samator aggressively expanded its industrial gas business by acquiring PT Aneka Gas Industri,” he said.
Arief also holds positions in a number of organizations. Among them are the General Chairperson of the Indonesian Buddhist Association, the General Chairperson of the Indonesian Industrial Gas Association, the Chairperson of the East Java DPP Apindo, the General Chairperson of the Walubi DPP, the Chairperson of STAB Maitreyawira, the Chairperson of the PBMI Assembly DPP, the General Chairperson of the LPTGN Central Management, and the Deputy Chairperson of the IV PBVSI.
Hermanto said that he had communicated with Arief on July 25. At that time he asked Arief about the condition of Covid-19 and the adequacy of oxygen.
“It looks like it will continue to rise until mid-July. Indeed, all oxygen producers are overwhelmed with gas cylinders and transportation. So the last few weeks I have been busy coordinating the lack of oxygen in West Java, Central Java, and East Java hospitals so I kind of forget to take a break,” said Arief, like written by Hermanto.
He also felt that he had lost Arief. For him, the late is a hero who has struggled to meet the oxygen needs in Indonesia. Even last month some entrepreneurs have donated five containers of oxygen to India.
“Thanks to his persistence, Indonesia has become independent in the field of oxygen,” he said.
“Thank you and goodbye my friend, partner, a great role model Mr. Arief Harsono, he has helped thousands of people in the vaccination program and is busy every day coordinating the allocation of oxygen by traveling to all hospitals in Indonesia,” added Hermanto.
