Borussia trio with a tailor-made start

1st Wheelchair Table Tennis Bundesliga
Borussia trio with a tailor-made start

This is what Sandra Mikolaschek, Valentin Baus and Thomas Schmidberger had hoped for on the first matchday of the new wheelchair table tennis Bundesliga season. With 3-0 wins, 6-0 points and 14-1 games, they are right back at the top of the table. A tailor-made start on the way to the ninth championship in a row for Borussia Düsseldorf.

The first opponent was TuS Winterscheid with a clear result on paper. But Borussia’s 5-0 win was hard-fought at one point or another. There were many close sets, four times it went into overtime and Valentin Baus even needed five sets to win against Filip Nachazel.

Since there are only four match days in the Wheelchair Table Tennis Bundesliga, several games are played each time and so we continued directly against the host of the day, TTC Wiehl, without a long break. Valentin Baus has not yet fully regained his form after the disappointing Paralympics and had to go the full distance again in both matches, unfortunately once without success. But Thomas Schmidberger was in a great mood and was able to win his matches. The Baus/Mikolaschek doubles also won and the game went to Borussia 4-1.

In the last game of the day, Paralympic champion Sandra Mikolaschek also played in the singles. Together with Schmidberger, she secured the second 5-0 win against BSG Duisburg.

As league leaders, Borussia will head to Frankfurt for the second matchday on November 16th. Then Schmidberger and Baus – this time without Mikolaschek – will face their biggest competitor and current second in the table TT Frickenhausen in the first match. Also in Koblenz, Bayreuth and Frankfurt.
