The first Borussia victory in seven weeks – and still cause for concern for the foals!
Three points, two goals and a joint celebration with the fans of Borussia Mönchengladbach – that sounds like an all-round successful afternoon for the Fohlenelf.
Gladbach: concern for injured Joe Scally
After difficult weeks, Borussia celebrated a 2-0 win over VfL Wolfsburg on Easter Sunday (April 9, 2023). But there was still a setback for coach Daniel Farke (46).
Almost a quarter of an hour before the end, Joe Scally (20) had to be replaced. Previously, he wanted to block a cross from his opponent and apparently injured his left thigh.
The American stayed on the ground twice for a long time until he was treated by the Fohlenelf’s medical staff. Then it quickly became clear: the 20-year-old couldn’t go any further.
Stefan Lainer (30) rushed to the bench and took over the position for the final quarter of an hour, the Austrian also played his part in Gladbach’s second clean sheet in a row.
How much does Borussia have to pay for the Wolfsburg threesome? Farke was also asked about his right-back after the game.
“It looks like a muscle injury, how bad can not say yet. What I can say is that he will miss a day or two – or a game or two,” said Farke.
Obviously, the Borussia coach is already preparing for the fact that only Stefan Lainer will be available as a trained right-back for the time being.
Farke: “It was all the more important that Stevie Lainer then immediately showed performance on the pitch. It’s possible that Joe will miss that position in the next game.”
Borussia gave an update on Easter Monday (April 10): “An initial medical examination gave at least a slight all-clear: The US international has not suffered any serious injuries. However, Scally will have to undergo further tests before it is clear whether and for how long he will be absent from Borussia.
Borussia’s away game at Eintracht Frankfurt is already in six days (April 15, 6:30 p.m.).
If Scally is absent from Gladbach in the Main metropolis, it would be his first injury-related absence of the current season. So far, Scally has been in the Foals squad in all 27 Bundesliga games and has played in 25 games.
