Now everything can go very quickly!
The fans already knew in the spring that Borussia Mönchengladbach was on the verge of a radical change. The departures of Marcus Thuram (25), Lars Stindl (34) and Ramy Bensebaini (28) became increasingly apparent.
Gladbach before desired player transfer as Hofmann replacement?
Without three long-time top performers in the coming season – those responsible had to adjust to that. But this impending departure comes almost out of nowhere!
Almost a year after his contract extension, national player Jonas Hofmann (30) apparently turns his back on Borussia and excludes Bayer Leverkusen. This is reported by theKicker‘ on Tuesday evening (July 4, 2023).
Accordingly, Bayer 04 are investing a fee in the region of ten million euros to guide Hofmann to direct league rivals Borussia – and is thus making use of an exit clause that is said to have been anchored in Hofmann’s contract since the extension in summer 2022.
With this, Borussia has to prepare for losing another piece of the jigsaw puzzle of the past few years. In Gladbach, Hofmann not only became a national player, but also one of the Bundesliga players with the most goals involved.
Who can fill this looming void?
According to “Kicker”, Borussia is currently primarily looking at an old acquaintance! Because Franck Honorat (26) was at the top of the foal wish list last summer.

According to media reports, the Gladbach managers around Roland Virkus (56) already gave three offers in August 2022 to guide Honorat to the Lower Rhine. Honorat’s club Stade Brest remained stubborn and rejected all offers.
GladbachLIVE reported at the beginning of June that Honorat is toying with the idea of a change this summer. He now wants to leave the club a year late – Honorat made no secret of that.
“I already had the change in mind,” Honorat explained in an interview with the French daily “The Telegram“. “I should move to Germany. There were offers and in the end they didn’t let me go for fear of being relegated. It was mid-August and I don’t think the club had the players to replace me.”
“L’Equipe” recently reported on a €9 million offer from Gladbach for Honorat. As a result, one or the other fan on social media wondered whether the departure of a current Gladbach offensive player was imminent, which Honorat could replace in turn.
The name Alassane Plea (30) kept coming up – he also extended his contract in the summer of 2022, according to media reports also with an exit clause. The 30-year-old recently emphasized in the “L’Equipe” interview that he felt very comfortable in Gladbach.
It is now becoming apparent that Borussia’s efforts to win Honorat are not likely to be related to an imminent departure from Plea, but to Jonas Hofmann’s move to a direct competitor.
The coming weeks will show whether the rumors of change are true and whether Virkus and Co. are investing the Hofmann millions to sign Honorat, the desired player, from France for the second time.
