Borussia Mönchengladbach loses a real homegrown talent. After 14 years in the club, the regular U23 player is moving to Austria.
Eugen Polanski and Borussia Mönchengladbach’s U23s will have to do without a regular player from the last few years in the coming Regionalliga West season. For Conor Noss, the chapter with the foals is over for the time being after 14 years. The 22-year-old moves to FC Blau-Weiss Linz.
Born in Düsseldorf with Irish roots, he has been active at Borussia since the U9s, went through the entire youth department and even made it into the Bundesliga. “Conor is a real homegrown talent,” emphasizes Gladbach’s sporting director Roland Virkus in a press release. “With the jersey of his Bundesliga debut, he is rightly immortalized in the cabin aisle.”
In November 2021, the then 20-year-old, who can play both in central and attacking midfield, as well as on both wings and as a hanging striker, was allowed to play for the professionals for the first time. The versatile attacking player made his debut in a 4-0 win over SpVgg Greuther Fürth. More joker appearances followed against 1. FSV Mainz 05 (1:1) and SC Freiburg (3:3).
No professional use 2022/23
In the past season, however, it should only be enough for four squad nominations under Daniel Farke, in each of which he stayed on the bench. Things went much better for the U23s, where he – if fit and not in the professional squad – was mostly seeded. He contributed 23 appearances and six goals to a strong third place.
In total, Noß made 72 appearances for the U23s in four seasons and scored eight goals. “Now he wants to play professionally every week, which is why he decided to move to Linz,” Virkus explains.
Compared to FC Blau-Weiß Linz, who celebrated the second division championship in Austria last season, the newcomer explains: “The challenge of developing myself in a new country and environment spurs me on very much.” Noss signs one with the Austrians Contract until 2025 with an option for a further year.
