Borussia Mönchengladbach Aims for Full Squad for Explosive Derby Against 1. FC Köln

After the international break, Borussia Mönchengladbach will face an explosive derby against 1. FC Köln. Head coach Gerardo Seoane hopes for the return of two top performers by then.

The Borussia started the new training week without ten national players after Rocco Reitz was nominated for the German U-21 team. This means that there are currently just twelve professionals from the Bundesliga squad who are available to VfL coach Gerardo Seoane for the training sessions. Reinforcements are therefore coming from Borussia’s U23: Jacob Italiano, Ryan Naderi, Shio Fukuda and Tony Reitz, Rocco Reitz’s younger brother, will train with the professionals in the next few days.

Nico Elvedi has been new on the injured list since the weekend. After the game against Mainz 05 (2:2), the defender was diagnosed with a sprain in his left knee, which is why Elvedi had to withdraw from the Swiss national team. It remains to be seen how long the training break will be. Elvedi may be available again for the derby at 1. FC Köln (Sunday, October 22nd, kick-off 3:30 p.m.) following the international break. “For Nico, we hope that the healing process goes well in the next few days,” said Seoane at the beginning of the week. However, a return to team training will probably only be possible next week.

The same applies to Christoph Kramer, who suffered a strain on his inner ligament before Mainz. “We will put Chris under individual strain over the next few days. But team training is still too early for him at the moment,” explained the VfL coach. With further progress, Kramer could be an option again for Cologne.

Seoane is optimistic about Jantschke

Tony Jantschke is likely to join the team sooner. The defender was out against Mainz with muscular problems. On Monday, the veteran completed an individual session. “Tony suffered a blow in training last week that caused muscular problems. However, it was not an injury, so we assume that he will be able to return to team training in the coming days,” said Seoane.

Today, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, the foals have a training session on the program. On Thursday, the Borussia team await the Belgian first division club St. Truiden for a friendly at Borussia Park (1 p.m., Fohlenplatz).
