Exactly 49 days after winning the German championship, Borussia Düsseldorf started the new Bundesliga season 2023/24 today. The new season began as the old one had ended: with a victory for Borussia. At the start there was a good and hard-fought 3:1 against championship contender TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen in the ARAG CenterCourt.

Anton Källberg, Dang Qiu and Timo Boll – Borussia Düsseldorf started the Bundesliga with the best line-up. However, the guests, who were strengthened by Hugo Calderano, number 5 in the world, came to Düsseldorf without Brazil’s superstar. However, it was not an easy game.

Even the first game of the day was tough: Anton Källberg, put in the top position by head coach Danny Heister, had a very difficult time in his opening match. He didn’t really find his way into the game and his opponent, Samuel Kulczycki, seemed to succeed in everything. But it is not for nothing that the Swede in Borussia uniform has been one of the best players in the Bundesliga for years. He fought his way into the fifth set and into overtime. Relieved, Källberg and the fans were able to celebrate a narrow 3:2 victory.

Dang Qiu then made short work of Alvaro Robles. With strong, fast balls, the European champions gave the Spaniard no chance and gave Düsseldorf a 2-0 lead.

Many fans had eagerly awaited the third game of the day: Timo Boll came back to the table, it had been months since his last game in ARAG CenterCourt. The 42-year-old celebrated his comeback in the final of the German championship, but was still cautious and lost his match. The injury is over and Boll is on the right track. And that’s exactly what the match showed. He’s on the right track, but he still hasn’t reached his goal of winning. Can Akkuzu from Ochsenhausen demanded a lot from Boll, but he countered with his experience, composure and his instinct for the right ball combined with a lot of feeling. But in the end it wasn’t enough. The crowd favorite fended off four mud balls, the fifth sat and Ochsenhausen shortened to 2:1.

It was again Anton Källberg who made Borussia’s victory for promotion to the Bundesliga perfect. Having found his normal form, he was able to easily defeat Alvaro Robles and ensured his team’s successful 3:1 victory.
